  • Slide Notes:

In the previous sessions, we gave an overview of semantics and how it affects knowledge processing, looked at how to build a knowledge architecture (including all the opportunities for applying semantic analysis methods and technologies), and took a tour of the past, present, and future of the semantic landscape. I debated whether to include this session on modeling a semantic solution closer to the end of the course, when you will be completing an assignment which asks you to do just that. I decided to include it here instead, closer to the beginning of the course, for two reasons: 1) I want you to have plenty of time to think about what problem/opportunity you are going to select for this assignment, and what semantic technologies might be most appropriate for handling it. And 2), Since the remainder of the course will involve looking, each week, at a difference semantic analysis method and examples of tools which employ it, knowing ahead of time how one should go about modeling a semantic solution will help you to place these methods in context and evaluate these tools.
